Oldham Inspiring Youth is the brainchild of Shafiqur Rahman, and having witnessed the downfall in social and community activities in recent times and how it had consequently impacted the lives of children and families throughout Oldham, we founded SR Community Sports to counter current and growing issues particularly the rise of obesity, mental health and social matter in children and adults.

Since our emergence and having first hand experience of the life changing work, commitment from our volunteers and trust shown by individuals and organisations supporting our work, we changed our status from a 'Community Group' to a 'Registered UK Charity' and in doing so, changed our name from SR Community Sports to Oldham Inspiring Youth to make certain of the continual growth and clear pathway to support further.

We believe in cohesive thinking and delivering. To date, our programmes, activities and community events directly impacted the lives of 7,000 children and we don't plan to stop anytime soon. The phase Together, Stronger is embedded into the hearts of all involved at Oldham Inspiring Youth and as UK Charity we intent to immerse our ambition, strategy and objective towards a simple goal: 'Inspire Through Sport'.

Our Journey

February 2018

SR Community Sports was founded with ambitions to engage, develop and support children through sports and education.

March 2018

We started Community Futsal Club, our partnership with Oldham Futsal Arena provided the platform to make an impact and start our first community club. Started slow but within a couple of months we directly impacted 50 unique children each week.

December 2018

We reached our first landmark, through numerous community clubs including sports not accessible to children like Dodgeball, Archery and Badminton we have impacted 1000+ children in our community.

June 2019

SR Community Sports became a family, with 18 volunteers supporting and improvising our provision, without volunteers our impact wouldn't be possible.

August 2020

SR Community became Oldham Inspiring Youth a registered charity tackling growing issues in our community such as Obesity, Mental Health and Social Issues.
